How To Look Professional At A Whiteboard
Selling at a whiteboard is an important skill for professional presenters. You need to know how to look natural, be persuasive, and work in an impromptu visual medium.
How can you do this – and look remarkably professional? Follow these 3 tips:
Tip 1. Have Your Markers Ready
Don’t spend your time and attention fussing with the markers. Work with 2-3 colors. Keep the tops off the markers so you don’t have to muck around getting the tops on and off.
Hint: You have to put the marker on the board. Waving your hands around won’t create a dynamic whiteboard diagram!
Tip 2. Have a Plan
While you look like you’re drawing a spontaneous sketch, it helps to have a plan. Make a plan for what parts of your presentation will take place at the whiteboard. What will you show? How will you show it?
By having a mental roadmap, you’ll be able to practice and rehearse. Then, it’s easy to look relaxed and natural working in front of clients and prospects.
Tip 3. Talk To Your Audience
Don’t talk to the whiteboard! First of all, the board isn’t going to sign off on your proposal. Second, your backside isn’t all that interesting.
Draw. Turn. Talk to your audience. It sounds like a little thing. But it’s absolutely essential – if you want to appear professional at a whiteboard.
Do these three things and you can be highly effective guiding discussion, presenting a compelling case, and closing more deals. At a whiteboard.
